Domestic Violence Between The United States And The...

An Analysis of the Differences in the Handling of Domestic Violence between the United States and the Republic of Ireland. By, Ryan James Patrick Cavanaugh CRJ – 30: Gender and the Law Professor Berg 16 December 2015 The issue of domestic violence has become a widely debated topic in modern society. Domestic violence has been a serious situation in the criminal justice system for much of history, however, until approximately the last twenty years, it was largely ignored by society. In the United States, significant political pressure resulting in valuable legislation being passed at a federal and state level has worked to protect victims of domestic violence, and prosecute those who commit such acts. While the United†¦show more content†¦These forms include but are not limited to; verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, economic abuse, and other forms of abuse. It is difficult to give a definitive definition for domestic violence as it can take on many different forms, however, one proposed definition that many in the field support define â€Å"†¦domestic violence as an unwanted, deliberate and sustained pattern of culturally inappropriate behaviour by people that harms vulnerable others with whom they have a fiduciary relationship and which primarily occurs in their place of residence.† (Taylor, Pooley, and Taylor, 2014, p. 11). This is a very broad definition intended to include many possible ways which people can fall victim to domestic violence. The factor that makes domestic violence difficult to enforce is that it occurs in a home environment between individuals involved in a close personal relationship. This makes many people, including victims, feel pressured to keep it a private matter, which can lead to a dangerous situation where the abuse gets worse over time. In the 1990s, the United States passed legislation to help crackdown on the domestic violence epidemic. The legislation instituted many important changes in the way the criminal justice system handles domestic violence. â€Å"These changes have included everything from mandatory arrest laws for domestic violence offenses, the compilation of e xtensive report filing systems to track domestic

Identifying Research Problem The first step and perhaps one of the most critical steps in carrying out cuisines research is to isolate and identify the problem. In the research study we are considering the problem identified is how a company can be assisted in accurately predicting short and long term sales forecasts by analyzing factors that affect the sales performance of its life insurance agents. By analyzing this data the goal is to produce a predictive model of agent and agency performance in an attempt to figure out the most important predictors of successful sales performance. We will write a custom essay sample on Current Events in Business Research Edit or any similar topic only for you Order Now This model would allow increased focus and training based on the predictors to maximize sales by the life insurance agents and their prospective agencies as a whole. Research Method Used The type of method used in the study is the reporting study type. Using this method the researchers considered characteristics of agents including formal education, professional education and various types of training used in the industry. The researchers also considered other studies in an effort to provided baseline and comparison models to use in helping develop their hypothesis. How Research is Solving the Problem This study went beyond what other studies failed to do, because it provided further analysis and comparative data to further study and investigate radioactivity. Much of the prior research seemed to only measure certain factors e. G. Behavioral, tenure, and education. This study looked at both sales and commissions for home service agents and regular agents because of the significance in number Of policyholders and leads. They study required data to be collected by contacting area agencies and having those agencies complete questionnaires on each of their sales agents with at least one year of contract. The final data was compiled from seven local agencies including Commonwealth Life Insurance Company and The Prudential Life Insurance to name a few. The study described its weakness for data that was often time hard to evaluate and not readily available or hard to measure. For instance, the study about agents with formal education, professional education and specific training showed no effect on production. The benefit of the study was that it was able to analyze possible factors that were believed to have an effect on an insurance agent’s productivity. The approach of this study used two research techniques. It used basic a reporting study that summarized data to compare findings on the topic collecting their own independent analysis and used only data that was objective. The article referenced previous studies and data available on the subject, and then relied on its own findings and research. Over the years there had been research that suggested other causal affects of an agent’s productivity. In this effect the study also used explanatory research because it compared prior studies and looked at the hypothesis that caused the inability to increase productivity. The study required data to be collected by contacting area agencies and having those agencies complete questionnaires on each of their sales agents with at least one year of contract. The final data was compiled from seven coal agencies including Commonwealth Life Insurance Company and The Prudential Life Insurance to name a few. Music Summary We Will Rock You Essay Example For Students

Music Summary We Will Rock You Essay We Will Rock You is a famous song, which could be for its attractive clapping rhythm, the powerful chorus sung unanimously and the magic guitar solo played by Brian May at the end of this piece of music. Those factors turned this song in an anthem of rock, being versioned and mixed by more than 50 artists, several appearances in films and television programs, commercials, radio, etc. But in 1992 appeared a version that probably will blow you mind, this is the Warrant version, which cover was made for the soundtrack of the movie Gladiator. Before to start is good to know some aspects of the song, the band and the cover that will be discussed on this essay, â€Å"We will rock you† is a song written by Brian May, was first published in the sixth album by Queen: News of the World, in 1977, and was reprinted several times in numerous compilations put out for sale after the death of singer Freddie Mercury. The song is ranked at no. 330 of the 500 best songs of history according to Rolling Stone. Moreover Queen is a British rock band, formed in 1970 by Freddie Mercury (singer), the other members are Brian May (guitarist), Roger Taylor (drummer) and John Deacon (bassist). On the other hand Warrant is a Hard rock band which obtained his greatest success during the nineties with their single and album Cherry Pie. The band became known for its loud songs focused on sex like Down Boys or Cherry Pie but also the band was known for its power ballads like Heaven, Sometimes She Cries and I Saw Red†. After Mercury’s death was very difficult tried to cover any song from Queen, but Warrant tried to prove some luck making the cover for the film Gladiator. Nothing guarantees that immediately people would love this version, even more being an immortal Queen classic, (as happened when Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ cover the same theme, and frankly was not a good version). After hearing the Warrants cover, people could found an interesting and adapted version to the style of this band. Sure, its a more metal sound, but always respecting and not deforming the original one as for example in the case of a cover made by El General† an undistinguished Latin tribute for Queen in 1997. Warrant version is much wilder than Queen’s one, Warrant song has powerful riffs which will make you sing and follow a more rapid catchy rhythm that transmits energy, power, personality, courage. It is a totally more modern version, rejuvenated. Most people think the original by Queen is the best, a classic in every sense of the word, but also they think that is amazed by how good this cover is. Its most people, who liked them from their early radio hits, would never expect this from them. They were an extremely underestimated band who never got the credit they deserved. Producers (and many fans as well) seemed to only want the commercial songs and never gave their other chance. I like how the band changed it and added some things to make it their own song, they gave a metal style, and that is the concept of made covers, Warrant could understood that the purpose of a cover a song is to recreate the song in your own style. They knew what they were doing, and I think they fulfilled with what they proposed. In my opinion its version is much better than the original, Warrant took a good song and made it awesome. For me they were so much better than so many bands from that era but were never able to reach their full potential, they deserve the respect that they never gave and I am sure when rock history would be more precise, will prove that grunge came to kill it, because it took off happiness, joy for living, the desire to say IM ALIVE. .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c , .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .postImageUrl , .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c , .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c:hover , .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c:visited , .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c:active { border:0!important; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c:active , .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u472f898d7555638dc1c3d1533845a34c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Hardcore Underground Rap Music EssayBibliography: Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Paper Mononucleosis free essay sample

Although infectious mononucleosis can be caused by other viruses, the most common way of transmission is through bodily fluids especially saliva, but can also be spread through semen and blood during sexual contact, organ transplants and blood transfusions. According to our textbook Community/Public Health Nursing Practice (2013), symptoms are fever, fatigue, enlarged lymph nodes, sore throat, malaise, at times enlarged liver and spleen. The incubation period before you would start to show these symptoms would be 4-6 weeks.Infectious Mononucleosis does not eave any major complications that come with the virus. You may get some secondary infections such as a sinus infection and strep throat. The only major complication that can happen but is rare is splenetic rupture, which can occur 4 days to 3 weeks after you began to have symptoms. Any person that is diagnosed with infectious mononucleosis should avoid any vigorous activity or contact sport for a minimum of one month to prevent splenetic rupture, since it could be swollen from the infection. We will write a custom essay sample on Paper Mononucleosis or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Due to infectious mononucleosis being a virus there is no medication or antiviral drug you can take to make it o away. Sometimes people may be prescribed a steroid to help with tonsil swelling but usually symptoms will resolve on their own within one or two months. The best treatment a patient could do for themselves is take antipathetic for fevers, get lots of rest, drink lots of water, take an analgesic if youre having any pain, avoid contact sports, and vigorous activities. The definition Of determinants Of health include factors that influence the health of a population or individual. How these determinants can contribute to a development of a disease is by the individuals health behaviors, social and hysterical environments and access to health care. Health behaviors such as kissing someone with mono or with unknown mono can possibly infect you and also by having unprotected sex with that infected person as well. By having interventions that can modify health determinants it can lead to improved health status and reduction or elimination of health disparities among populations and communities. A nalyzing the communicable disease requires the use of an epidemiological triangle. Some of the factors you may see in this triangle are host factors, agent factors and environmental factors. Any change in any of these factors has a chance of changing the balance of health. How the host factors work with infectious mononucleosis it that needing a host cell from a human that is usually is a teenager or young adult. Infectious mononucleosis does not discriminate against sex, background, race, marital status, religion, education and economic status. There are no genetic risk factors with mononucleosis it is an infectious disease. The anatomical site with infectious mononucleosis is usually swollen and red tonsils, but you might also be able to feel enlarged lymph nodes in your neck, ND if it is going on for a while you might even be able to feel an enlarged spleen. If you have infectious mononucleosis you will always carry the virus that caused it, but as soon as you get over mono you are highly unlikely to ever get mono again. By carrying the virus it may become active from time to time, which is considered active immunity, but it will not be accompanied by any symptoms, but when its active it is contagious to others. With infectious mononucleosis you can get tonsillitis, the lymphoid tissues in the back of the mouth usually help to filter out bacteria but when the tonsils are infected the homeopathic system is unable to filter the bacteria like it normally should. For infectious mononucleosis there is no passive immunity, you can be a susceptible host to get infectious mononucleosis. If you have infectious mononucleosis it is important to maintain a good diet, and drink lots of water to stay hydrated. But it is important to note that you dont want to be doing any vigorous activity or contact sport to do a possibly enlarged spleen. It is also recommended to not have any sexual contact or kissing your partner who has infectious mononucleosis since it can be spread through this manner. It is k for you as the patient to handle their own food, but would not prepare anyone elses food since it can be spread through saliva, and you could accidental sneeze while cooking and infect someone. Some of the agent factors that you will see with infectious mononucleosis is that it is a virus and its common mode of transmission is through saliva. The virulent factor of infectious mononucleosis is the latent infection of the B lymphocytes, it infects the a lymphocytes in lymphatic tissue and blood, because of the infection to the B cells can cause latent infection, stimulate heir growth, or immobilizers cells, as stated by (Brendan, 2014). As in regards to infectious mononucleosis diagnosis there are really no environmental factors that cause this. There are many roles a community health nurse face when dealing with a communicable disease. The nurse can help the community by trying to make them understand the communicable disease by providing them with education and intervening as needed. As the community nurse it would be their job to surveillance the communicable disease which includes systematic collection and analysis of data regarding the communicable disease. The primary pr evention would be to prevent the occurrence of the communicable disease, educate the patients and public who are at high risk of catching the communicable disease and how to prevent getting the communicable disease and ways to eliminate risk factors for exposure. Secondary prevention would be increasing early detection by screening patients who may have come in contact with the communicable disease, refer suspected cases of a communicable disease for diagnostic confirmation. Tertiary prevention would be to decrease complications due to the communicable disease through proper treatment, monitor treatment implicate, and prevent reinsertion. State laws mandate which communicable diseases must be reported to the CDC, infectious mononucleosis is not One Of the communicable diseases that needs to be reported to the state of Wisconsin.Because of this you are not going to find much systematic collection and analysis of infectious mononucleosis. There usually is no follow up needed from the community nurse for infectious mononucleosis. One organization that addresses infectious mono sclerosis is the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Health Organization works towards reducing communicable diseases in populations that have en affected by humani tarian emergencies.

Life Is Beautiful (1997) - Movie Review

Life Is Beautiful (1997) - Movie Review When I first heard about the Italian movie Life Is Beautiful (La Vita e Bella), I was shocked to discover that it was a comedy about the Holocaust. The articles that appeared in the papers bespoke of many that found even the concept of the Holocaust portrayed as a comedy to be offensive. Others believed that it belittled the experiences of the Holocaust by inferring that the horrors could be ignored by a simple game. I, too, thought, how could a comedy about the Holocaust possibly be done well? What a fine line the director (Roberto Benigni) was walking when portraying such a horrendous subject as a comedy. Yet I also remembered my feelings to the two volumes of Maus by Art Spiegelman - a story of the Holocaust portrayed in comic-strip format. It was months before I dared read it, and only then because it was assigned reading in one of my college classes. Once I started reading, I couldnt put them down. I thought they were wonderful. I felt the format, surprisingly, added to the books power, rather than distracting from it. So, remembering this experience, I went to see Life Is Beautiful. Act 1: Love Although I had been wary of its format before the movie began, and I even fidgeted in my seat, wondering if I was too far from the screen to read the sub-titles, it took only minutes from the films beginning for me to be smiling as we met Guido (played by Roberto Benigni - also the writer and director). With a brilliant mixture of comedy and romance, Guido used flirtatious random encounters (with a few not so random ones) to meet and woo the school teacher Dora (played by Nicoletta Braschi - Benignis real-life wife), whom he calls Princess (Principessa in Italian). My favorite part of the movie is a masterful, yet hilarious, sequence of events involving a key, time, and a hat - youll understand what I mean when you see the film (I dont want to give too much away before you see it). Guido successfully charms Dora, even though she had been engaged to a fascist official, and gallantly retrieves her while riding on a green painted horse (the green paint on his uncles horse was the first act of anti-Semitism that is shown in the film and really the first time you learn that Guido is Jewish). During Act I, the movie-goer almost forgets he came to see a movie about the Holocaust. All that changes in Act 2. Act 2: The Holocaust The first act successfully creates the characters of Guido and Dora; the second act delves us into the problems of the times. Now Guido and Dora have a young son, Joshua (played by Giorgio Cantarini) who is bright, loved, and doesnt like to take baths. Even when Joshua points out a sign in a window that says Jews are not allowed, Guido makes up a story to protect his son from such discrimination. Soon the life of this warm and funny family is interrupted by deportation. While Dora is away, Guido and Joshua are taken and placed in cattle cars - even here, Guido tries to hide the truth from Joshua. But the truth is plain to the audience - you cry because you know what is really happening and yet smile through your tears at the obvious effort Guido is making to hide his own fears and calm his young son. Dora, who had not been picked up for deportation, chooses to board the train anyway in order to be with her family. When the train unloads at a camp, Guido and Joshua are separated from Dora. It is at this camp that Guido convinces Joshua they are to play a game. The game consists of 1,000 points and the winner gets a real military tank. The rules are made up as time goes on. The only one that is fooled is Joshua, not the audience, nor Guido. The effort and love that emanated from Guido are the messages relayed by the movie - not that the game would save your life. The conditions were real, and though the brutality was not shown as directly as in Schindlers List, it was still very much there. My Opinion In conclusion, I must say that I think Roberto Benigni (the writer, director, and actor) created a masterpiece that touches your heart - not only do your cheeks hurt from smiling/laughing, but your eyes burn from the tears. As Benigni himself stated, ...I am a comedian and my way is not to show directly. Just to evoke. This to me was wonderful, the balance to comedy with the tragedy.* Academy Awards On March 21, 1999, Life Is Beautiful won Academy Awards for . . . Best Actor (Roberto Benigni)Best Foreign Language FilmOriginal Dramatic Score (Nicola Piovani) * Roberto Benigni as quoted in Michael Okwu, Life Is Beautiful Through Roberto Benignis Eyes, CNN 23 Oct. 1998 (http://cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/Movies/9810/23/life.is.beautiful/index.html).

Nursing Practice and Decision Making Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Nursing Practice and Decision Making - Essay Example Once the patient is relaxed, the chief complaint must be assessed, followed by anamnesis morbid. In this case, the patient stated that he had never felt a pain of this nature before, suggesting that this could be the onset or acute phase of a particular illness (Rogers, A., & Pilgrim, 2010). Therefore, it is necessary to assess the life history of the patient in order to reveal the underlying causes of this pain (Edwards & Elwyn, 2009). In the review of Mr. Singh, there were indications that he was susceptible to cardiovascular diseases. The risk factors that were obtained from the assessment of Mr. Singh include hypertension, which was previously diagnosed and presently at 160/100. Mr. Singh was also a smoker who was suffering from depression and anxiety (Goldberg & Fawcett, 2012). In addition to these factors, Mr. Singh also had been previously diagnosed with hyperlipidemia and type II diabetes which made him susceptible to diabetic heart disease. Due to the fact that the parameter s were normal except for his blood pressure and the sense that he was at risk of developing a cardiac disease, Mr. Singh had to undergo several additional tests to determine his cardiac function. There is a need for shared decision making as Mr. Singh did not present any major signs or symptoms upon his visit to the hospital (Thomson, Kinnersley & Barry, 2012). Other further complications in Mr. Singh’s situation will also be analyzed in the following sections when analyzing the psychosocial issues involved.... Multiprocessor Systems and Applications Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Multiprocessor Systems and Applications - Essay Example Computer programmer might have a difficult time studying all the instruments for all the computer processors. It might be difficult to correct difficulties that cross numerous CPU categories. Different processors require different resources and boundaries to the resources. The multiprocessing is the main complicated challenge because their CPU structures are in charge of allocating sources to opposing processes in an organized environment (Darlington and Ghanem, 1993). Applications may experience challenges when operating a multiprocessor processor because of practices they create which are acceptable only to one-processor systems. These challenges include the following. Thread Priorities, which can be solved by allowing access to information structures that reduce race situations. Memory ordering is another challenge, and can be reduced by petitioning the CPU clichà © into sections that can be accessed easily. During data processing, every processor processes information from parallel data calculations. The process shares a memory, which requires strategies such as locks and monitors to provide access to data. Finally, they all have concurrently performing procedures. Therefore, they require close monitoring of data (Darlington and Ghanem,

Hard times Coursework Essay Example for Free

Hard times Coursework Essay The comparison between employer and employee is stressed every time Bounderby meets Stephen Blackpool and the comparison can be clearly seen, as when Bounderby and Blackpool are at the table, Bounderbys half is full of silver china and saucers, while Blackpools is empty, this shows the power balance between the two-i. e. all the power is in Bounderbys hands, as is the wealth and the control. Blackpools word is rarely trusted by those in power over Bounderbys and they are so very different in almost all respects, with Bounderbys life taking its own cource with his allegiance with Gradgrind in Parliament, while Blackpool only has Rachel caring for him, as compared to the city he is another nobody down on his luck. The story also shows family bonds through difficult situations, with the major family scenario of the Gradgrinds the son and daughter are raised by their father in a factual heartless way, even though he does not realise this, he does go on to realise his mistake, with the mother of the family disabled and unable to move around due to sickness, being manipulated by everyone who walks by, as she has no dominance over anything indeed, and her character suggests she agrees with her husband on the factual upbringing of their children, and also shows the strains the family goes through after Louisa marries Mr Bounderby, and Tom gets involved in the bank robbery, and the family has to somehow try to bounce back, but does not manage to succeed with only a neutral ending The other families mentioned are the bond of father and child in Cissy Jupes Tale, the Man and wife in Blackpools unhappy marriage, and the twist in the story with Mr Bounderbys mother appearing and explaining his upbringing Language Dickens uses a variety of techniques in hard times, mostly descriptive; giving a chance of detail good enough to imagine it, but for everyones imagination to be different, repetition gets across the steely characters characteristics   For Louisa he uses a simple vocabulary, using childly words and simple phrases meant with good intention on her behalf, with no academical subtext or complicated phrases, showing that shes a good and kind hearted person, but also slightly dim compared to the other main characters The language of Mr Gradgrind is always very well developed, and while the descriptions of him make us see a rigid robot like figure, he does speak intellectually throughout the story Mr Bounderby however is much more rigid in his language and expresses his thoughts using whats a fact instead of whats humane, and this always puts him in a negative light, he may have been born upside down where he would have always had such views, and always acted on factual or instinct data to prove his point The language of tom and Louisa has two stages during the story, at first they talk in only facts, with little feeling or emotion in their words, but occasionally while in private they speak out freely, or as freely as they can, but in the presence of others they stick to their blank expressions and factual sentences During toms elder years he begins to talk more like his father, with a free stroke in his speech and has retained some independence while still being accepted by his father and friends Louisa in her elder years changes little to her younger equivalent and stays rigid and factual, showing a feeling of repressed anger inside her Mrs Gradgrind is a poorly woman and her language reflects that, being incomplete, with words missing from sentences and grammatical errors if not for which she would sound like Mr Gradgrind, but throughout her brief appearances she keeps her grumbling simple and unimportant The language used by Blitzer is the product of Mrs Gradgrind and Bounderbys teachings and shows the heartless product of their ideal. in the end they both regret their schooling of Blitzer and realise their wrong, but only too late for some The other controversial language used is that of Mr Sleary the Circus leader, who uses a range of bizarre phrases in between his sentences and makes his appearance misunderstood and diverse compared to the other characters Conclusion So in conclusion with my previous statements, as listed above, the novel Hard times has a monotone view of Victorian society With all characters at a set point being either extremely good or eminently bad, in character and in appearance, much of which suggests that the focus of the story is based solemnly on interaction between characters, and no room for backdrops has been spared from steel bins burning in the winter cold, glum industrial streets and houses varying from basic to lavish all showing the contrast between the rich striving to change society the poor striving to stay out of trouble, and those who strive to be rich

Don Quijote and the Neuroscience of Metafiction Essay -- Quixote Migue

Don Quijote and the Neuroscience of Metafiction What is metafiction? Its original meaning was "a fiction that both creates an illusion and lays bare that illusion."1 But the term has expanded and expanded to include any fiction that even mentions the idea of fiction. That can cover a lot of things, starting with the Iliad.2 I'd like to go back to the original idea. In my understanding, metafictions tell stories in which the physical medium of the story becomes part of the story. Among contemporary writers of fiction one could mention: my erstwhile colleagues John Barth, Donald Barthelme, and Ray Federman. Others are Borges, Calvino, Nabokov, Umberto Eco, John Fowles, Salman Rushdie, and on and on. Metafiction has become very popular in our questioning centuries, the twentieth and twenty-first. But, from previous times, one could point to Diderot's Jacques le Fataliste or Sterne's Tristram Shandy. The events of Tristram Shandy include the very copy of Tristram Shandy I am holding in my hand. Metafictions lead to some of the more dizzying effects possible in literature. In Doris Lessing's The Golden Notebook, for example, one of the notebooks tells about a novelist trying to write a novel. A friend asks her to give him the first sentence, and the novelist rattles off the first sentence of The Golden Notebook itself. Drama--metadrama--gets this effect in the metatheatrical tradition of Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author or Henry IV, and many of the absurdists like Genet or 1 Ionesco or Weiss, in which characters point to the "play" they are acting in. In movies, you could also point to Woody Allen's Purple Rose of Cairo or Bergman's Persona or Alejandro Amenà ¡bar, Abre los Ojos, and espcially Sp... ...e from Linear Time: Prefrontal Cortex and Conscious Experience.† In The Cognitive Neurosciences, ed. Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale (Bars)

Question: What techniques discussed in this chapter did he seem to apply? Answer: The technique discussed in this chapter did Mr. Trump seem to apply is behaviorally anchored rating scale (BARS). It is an appraisal method that aims at combining the benefits of narrative critical incidents and quantified ratings by anchoring a quantified scale with specific narrative example of good or poor performance. There are five steps required to developing the BARS which the first one is write critical incidents. On this step, it is required to ask persons who know the job (jobholders and/or supervisors) to describe specific illustrations (critical incidents) of effective and ineffective job performance. The second step is develop performance dimensions which people group the incidents into five or ten dimensions and then define each of the dimension. The example of the dimension is salesmanship skills, skill in monetary transactions, bagging skills, human relation skills and so forth. The third step of developing BARS is reallocate incidents that verify these groupings and have another team of people who also know the job reallocate the original critical incidents. From the second step and the critical incidents, a cluster definition has been concluded and must reassign each incident to the cluster which is fits best. For example, 50 per cent to 80 per cent of this second team assigns it to the same cluster as did the first group. The next step is scaling the incident which the second group were rate the behavior described by the incident as to know how effective or inefficiently it represents performance on the dimension. The last step of developing BARS is developing a final instrument which chooses about six to seven of the incidents as the dimension’s behavioral anchors. However, there are some advantages when developing the behaviorally anchored rating scale. The first one is more accurate gauge which people know and do the job and its requirements better than a nyone develop the BARS and finally was producing a good gauge of job performance. Secondly is has a clearer standards. The critical incidents along the scale illustrate what to look for in terms of superior performance, average performance, and so on.Meaning that, they will know how good they are in term of performance. Third advantage is getting the feedback which the critical incidents make it easier to explain the ratings to appraisees. Next advantage is it has independent dimensions. Clustering the critical incidents into five or six performance dimensions should help to make the performance dimensions more independent of one another. Lastly, consistency is the advantage where the BARS-based evaluations seem to be relatively reliable, in that different raters’ appraisals of the same person tend to be similar.

Free Essays on Everlasting Hills

Thomas Cahill’s book â€Å"The Desire of the Everlasting Hills† tells his account of Jesus and the origins of Christianity. This novel is extremely detailed but focuses particularly on the apostles who are the interpreters of Jesus. Cahill describes Jesus from his birth to his death by the accounts of those who knew him best, his apostles. The novel begins with the author placing Jesus in the setting of a time were Jews were persecuted for their views and beliefs. He goes on to describe Jesus as a man whose life and wisdom went on to change the world forever. The question the author seems to answer before he asks it is, â€Å"Did Jesus make a difference?† In my opinion the answer is undoubtedly yes. What I enjoyed immensely about this novel was the way Cahill described Jesus. He showed him as a common man, friend, lover of mankind, and a teacher who just so happened to be the Son of God. Cahill seems to give biblical explanations of Jesus by describing the thoughts and writings of John, Paul, Luke, Mark, and Matthew. He continues to give the reader an abundance of imagery by telling us what Peter and Paul looked like. What I also found interesting is the comparison of the four gospels. The author goes into some detail of Luke’s gospels, which were directly aimed at non-Jewish listeners. Paul seems to appear as the author’s favorite at times, but at other times criticizes Paul because Paul paints a different picture of Jesus compared to that of Mark, Luke, and Mathew. But what stands out to me is that Paul was merely recounting the events and gospels he had heard. The chapter devoted to Paul is long and detailed about his character and teachings, which go on to describe Paul as the more competent of the first disciples. Cahill seems to get sidetracked from the topic of Jesus and his followers but then relates it to what his ideal utopian society would be. He describes Jesus as helping to make our world a place ... The 9 Best Criminal Justice Schools

The 9 Best Criminal Justice Schools SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Are you passionate about law and preventing crime?Curious about how punishment and prisons work? Then a criminal justice degreewould probably be a good fitfor you. But how can you find good criminal justice schools to apply to? In this article, we go over what criminal justice schools are, why people choose to earn degrees in the field, and how you can learn to identify top criminal justice schools, both in-person and online. We then give you a list of our picks for the nine best criminal justice schools. What Is Criminal Justice? Overview Before we look at the best criminal justice schools, let’s go over what exactly the criminal justice field entails. Criminal justice is the study of the criminal justice system, which includes law enforcement, correctional facilities and institutions (e.g., jails, prisons, and juvenile detention centers), criminal courts, and all the roles within these systems. Criminal justice degrees differ from degrees in criminology. Criminology is a social/behavioral science that focuses on the scientific study of delinquency and crime, including why people commit crimes and how we might be able to prevent them. On the other hand, criminal justice focuses more on the practical side, including what types of crimes take place, how courts and prisons work, the role of the police, etc. Despite the differences between these two fields, there's often some overlapin terms of topics and courses. Some schools offer degrees that combine both criminal justice and criminology. For example, the University of Missouri- St. Louis offersa BS in Criminology and Criminal Justice. What Are Criminal Justice Schools? For the sake of this article, we'll be defining criminal justice schools as any institutions that offer a criminal justice degree program (and usually a criminal justice department or college). You can look for criminal justice schools in a specific area of the US using the website All Criminal Justice Schools. Just type inyour zip codeto get a list of schoolsthat have criminal justice degrees. Alternatively, you can browse criminal justice schools by state onCriminal Justice Degree Schools. Criminal justice schools generally offer a mix of criminal justice degrees, which can include certificates/diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, master’s degrees, and doctorates in criminal justice or a related field. Many criminal justice schools also have the option to earn a degree in criminal justice entirely online. This can be convenient for those who find it difficult to attend classes in-person and who would prefer the flexibility of an online program. So what exactly do you learn in a criminal justice program? You’ll usually cover topics that span the broader fields of sociology, psychology, political science, philosophy, and public administration. Most criminal justice programs require you to take classes on the American legal system, judicial administration, the police, legal issues, ethical concerns, and juvenile delinquency. Many criminal justice majors move on to a career in law enforcement. Why Go to a Criminal Justice School? Many people choose to attend criminal justice schools to not only learn about the criminal justice system, but to also get a job that utilizes the knowledge and skills they’ve acquired in their degree program. A degree in criminal justice can help prepare you for any of the following jobs: Bailiff CIA agent Correctional officer Crime scene investigator DEA agent FBI agent Fraud investigator Police officer Private detective Probation officer Secret Service agent Security guard State trooper Though many of these jobs require just a high school diploma, having an associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice could help you stand out from candidates and raise your potential for higher wages and promotions. Moreover, some people get a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice to lay the foundation for getting a graduate degree in a related field such aslaw. The following tabledepictsthe median salaries for various criminal justice-related jobs, along with each job's minimum required degree and employment growth rate for the years 2016-2026. Data comes from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Jobs are arranged from highest salary to lowest. Note that theaverage employment growth rate is 7% for all jobs,so any job that has a rate higher than this is growing faster than average. Job Title Minimum Degree Required Median Salary (2018) Job Outlook (2016-2026) Lawyers Doctoral or professional degree $120,910 8% Sociologists Master’s or doctoral degree $82,050 1% Police and Detectives High school diploma or college degree $63,380 7% Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Teachers, Postsecondary Master’s or doctoral degree $61,900 15% (all postsecondary teachers) Forensic Science Technicians Bachelor’s degree $58,230 17% Probation Officers and Correctional Treatment Specialists Bachelor’s degree $53,020 6% Private Detectives and Investigators High school diploma $50,090 11% Correctional Officers and Bailiffs High school diploma $44,400 -7% Security Guards and Gaming Surveillance Officers High school diploma $28,530 6% As you can see above, generally speaking, the more education you have, the higher the salary you’re likely to earn. This isn’t just true for the criminal justice field but for all fields. According to a BLS report, there's a clear trend with grad-degree holders making more money on average than bachelor's and associate degree holders. Furthermore, bachelor’s and associate degree holders typically make more than those with only a high school diploma. Which Criminal Justice Schools Should You Apply To? Now that we’ve gone over what kinds of jobs you can get with a criminal justice degree, let’s take a look at how you can figure out which criminal justice schools and programs are top-quality. A great criminal justice school will have most or all of the following qualities: A department or college specializing in criminal justice or criminology A variety of criminal justice-related classes Faculty with expertise in criminal justice and related topics, such as sociology and psychology A high graduation rate Professional and/or research opportunities Generally speaking, there is no notable difference in quality between a traditional in-person criminal justice program and an online one. If you prefer the idea of earning your bachelor’s or master’s degree online, (accredited!) criminal justice online schools can be a great choice. I suggest browsing the US News list of the best graduate online criminal justice programs to get a feel for what schools offer strong online programs. Most high-quality criminal justice schools offer equally high-quality online programs. These can be either bachelor’s or master’s programs. Note that you cannot earn a doctorate through criminal justice online schools. Any school offering this option is most likely a scam and won’t actually reward you with a legitimate doctorate. If you decide to get your criminal justice degree online, great! Just be aware that there are a few disadvantages to doing so. For one, you likely won’t get to network as much with professors and students as you would with a traditional program. Secondly, some employers might look down on an online degree (though this really depends on the employer- most should not care how you got your degree as long as it’s legitimate!). Overall, there are a lot of factors that go into picking the right criminal justice program for you. Now, let’s take a look at the best criminal justice schools, both in-person and online. Edict of Milan - Essay Example So, direct or implied, the passage of the edict paved way to Art and Architecture with Christian themes. The Latin word Basilica originally referred to a public building in the center of town. The Roman Basilica, which looked like a large roofed hall, was used as a place for transacting business and other legal matters. The hall is divided by columns which made isles and arcade spaces. In these cubicles are the officials and scribes who attend to the transactions. On one or both ends of the hall is a propped up platform called an apse. This is for the seats for the magistrates. Some times, there are even seats for other people to watch the process of the legal activities. These basilicas looked like covered market places (New World Encyclopedia). This was exactly the purpose for the Basilica Porcia in Rome. After the edict, Christians, who now had a new found freedom, decided to build buildings and structures for their worship. Temples, although serves a similar purpose, does not suite the practices that are to be made. Temples for the pagan gods serves mostly as deposit boxes for treasures and figures of the gods. There is also the fact that worship practices are done outside of the temple under the open sky. Constantine I made use of the architectural concept of early Roman basilicas as a template for the grand place of worship. The new basilicas were shaped as long rectangles two stories high, with ranks of arch-headed windows one above the other. They also had a center nave with one isle at each side and an apse at one end. This apse is now known as the altar. The word Basilica had changed after the edict. It then meant as a place of Christian worship or a large church which was given a ceremonial blessing of the Pope (New World Encyclopedia). An example of this would be the Basili ca of Vitale in Italy. From then on, basilicas are no longer associated with commerce or politics but of spiritual refuge. Although the center of the city still houses the business and political district, the church is always found near. In fifteenth century Europe, the plazas of cities are considered the center and on opposite sides of the plaza are the church and the town hall. This maintains the concept of keeping the basilica at the center of the city. The edict of 313 has made a great impact in the architecture and usage of basilicas. But, at present day, both basilica formats are recognized; architectural basilicas are referred to the early Roman version where as the pos-edict basilicas are of the ecclesiastical kind.
